The hacker.

They possess the ability to destroy your entire life without even leaving their chair. They hide behind the computer screens and remain merciless in their tasks.

They are the invisible enemy.

Since the start of the internet, hacking scandals have been present globally, from stealing insurances numbers to personal information. Operation Aurora, in January 2010 left Google defenseless, as an unknown enemy attacked from China, stealing intellectual property.  The Pentagon, U.S. Navy, Army, and NASA computers aren’t safe from the cybercriminal either, as they were broken into in the early 2000’s. Recently a teenager claims to have breached a Russian online portal and game company. The reason: response to the devastating MH17 plane crash which occurred in 2014 when an international passenger flight was shot down near the Russia-Ukraine border killing everyone aboard.

Age doesn’t matter, gender doesn’t matter, in cyberspace, no one is safe.

However, there are simple ways to protect our Netflix accounts. It is suggested to stay log off if possible, and to never share your password. Design passwords unique to the website and try to never use the same password twice. Have fun when creating the password by mixing in numbers and alternating the uppercase and lowercase letters. Security expert Robert Siciliano offers his expertise as he suggests keeping the list of passwords in an Excel document, which is protected by a two-step authentication, ensuring privacy.

Remain cautious on the internet and put on your armor to battle the invisible enemy.
