Preparing for the SAT and ACT

Preparing for the SAT and ACT

Sarah Jiva, Writer

Winter is ending, spring is on its way, and that can only mean one thing- it is SAT® and ACT® time for many students. Between these standardized tests, homework, extracurriculars, and other time consuming tasks, it can be very stressful. However, with the right approach and attitude, you can soar your way to success! Here are some tips for getting through the stress:

1) PRACTICE! The best way to prepare for the both tests is to practice. There are various online websites that offer practice for both tests, so make use of them.

2) Go over basic formulas for math (e.g. Area formulas) or rules for English (e.g. Punctuation rules).

3) Watch strategy videos online. There are many videos on general test taking strategies and tips that may help you gain an idea about how to go about the test.

4) Keep a positive attitude. Encourage your friends. You are all going through the same thing so encourage positivity!

5) Set a personal goal. Aim towards a score that you would like to accomplish and stick with it.

6) Don’t get caught up on tricky questions. Keep moving forward and go back if you have to.

7) Keep up with test dates so that you don’t have to pay a late fee and you can ensure a seat.

8) SLEEP. The tests are long so make sure that you are stocked up on sleep and ready to go. Try to go to bed earlier starting a few days before the test.

9) Breathe. Take a deep breath, put things in perspective, and believe in yourself. Think of all that you have accomplished already.

10) Reward yourself! Find something to look forward to that you can enjoy once the tests are over. You deserve to relax and enjoy yourself after all of your hard work.

Remember: You can do this!
